today i presented at the new jersey art educators conference with another art teacher in my district. this year they put us in the giant ballroom and we filled it! whew! it was chaos when we went to pass out lesson plans. i had to step away because of all of the grabbing and fighting!
great to meet lots of nice art teachers and i enjoy sharing with them!

ok, what's this weird combo of pictures..?
well my sister and i were at target today and we spotted a famous author. ok, well she noticed her because i didn't know what she looked like! we first saw her van with her store name on it in the parking lot.
a few years ago when i painted this pop art dog he was sold off at an auction to beneifit frenchtown, nj. the author of the book eat, pray , love actually bought it. she runs a store in the town called two buttons.
as we were shopping, my sister and i quietly looked for her in the store. when we did find her i approached her to tell her she had purchased some of my art work..the dog!
little did i know that she had a big article in the the ny times today about her next book...ha! she said the dog is like their little store mascot..pretty cool. :)

found this picture in my email this morning and it really made my day. a customer in san francisco sent it to show me that she had designed her bay to breakers race costume around the pirate cupcake to shirt! love how she made the paper bag looking skirt...lol!
this race is pretty wacky and is a cross between mardi gras and a marathon. when i went to san fran. two years ago to see the maker faire/bizarre bazaar show, my friend who was a runner at the time, insisted on running in this race. i think it's about 7 miles through the streets and people get all decked out and throw tortillas in the air? i watched it live on tv from the hotel room while she ran, then she came back and an hour later we caught our flight back to the east coast. it was close timing!
but it also made me think, yes, people in san francisco do like dog bone art! i've been pretty down since finding out that i got rejected to the big renegade craft fair out there in july.

Visit Dog Bone Art in Washington DC at the end of September..the 28th to be exact. The event is at a place called the Marie Reed Learning Center. I was accepted to the Crafty Bastards show down there. I was surprised, didn't think I'd get in at all since I heard it's tough. Now hopefully I can find someone to go with me!

mushroom girls two color print tees

most still came out well. since i have no fancy equipment to do a two color process maybe i'll switch to buying some tiny squeegees. What a weird day this has been. Don't worry, there's no cat in the box behind Peewee. Yes, the fiberfill box with cut outs like robot eyes was my attempt to catch and hold a little black cat that has been wandering around our backyard. Need less to say, the box didn't work. Actually I lured him in it with some milk but had no way to seal it up. So when I came out with the packing tape, the sounds of me pulling it off the roll scared the cat right out of the holes I cut in the box. I didn't think he could fit through them!
Normally I am not really a cat person, especially having two Jack Russell Terriers around. But this little cat wouldn't let up. Yesterday I found him on top of the garage door and he stayed close ever since. This was causing Peewee to bark at a high pitch like a mad man but it didn't seem to bother the cat all that much. He still kept trying to come closer. This morning he was right back in the garden and it started all over again. I knew this little cat couldn't stick around all summer, it just wasnt going to work. I called the local animal shelter and they agreed to take him with some hesitation. I saw their web site was filled with cats, many even looked just like this little cat. But I told her he was friendly and even trying to approach the dogs. At one point she could hear Peewee yapping away in the background so she said I could bring it in if I could catch him.
I wound up having to borrow a cat carrier from the vet since the fiber fill box idea was a bomb. About two hours later I managed to lure him in the little carrier with some cold cuts. I drove him down to the shelter, which stunk like poo when I walked in the door. Worse than the vets office! It was weird to have to sign a paper. At least I didn't have to fill out the top half which I realized was for people giving up an animal. How anyone could do that I don't know. As the one girl took the cat away, another one came in to answer a phone call. I made the mistake of asking if she had any terriers in the shelter and she offered for me to take a walk through. I had only been in an animal shelter once before, maybe 10+ years ago. What a depressing site. This was a small shelter, maybe 20 dogs or so. Mainly Pit Bull mixes or other large dogs. Some stayed asleep as I walked by, others jumped up, one even growled. That was a big pit bull lying on the floor near the door. There was one small dog, a little Beagle who was sitting on a little raised bed who came right over to the door and looked very sweet. Couldn't have been more than a year or two old. The tag was marked stray..not available. The girl said he had just been picked up and they hold them for 8 days in hopes that an owner would claim them. Who could lose a little dog like that?? And not already have picked it up??
Why did I walk in there I have no idea. I wanted to play with all of them. Well, maybe not the one who growled at me.

Ok, once again I know it's been a long time since I have updated this but school is finally out and I hope to be doing a lot more art work.
This is a shot of the first day at Art Star Craft Bazaar in Philadelphia at the end of May. I'm not sure I am cut out for craft shows or at least two day events since I work full time. It's very stressful and tiring. I think my husband has had it with them.
I do have one other one scheduled for early December but it's local and only one day. And indoors, so no tent set up or anything. It will just be with an 8 foot table. Hopefully my buddy Bubbledog will join me and make an experience out of it. :)

these guys were definitely a challenge for me. i designed the squirrel image without thinking of how to make it easy to sew on the hats and other features. i didn't have another ear to hold a hat so that made it pretty hard.
